Dead To The World

This weekend, from noon Saturday through 5:00 am Monday, there will be no phone, internet, television, debit/credit card or ATM functionality on Kwajalein or Roi Namur while our satellite link is worked on Stateside.

You should hear all the wailing and gnashing of teeth going on from the residents. You would think there was nothing else to do around here. I personally plan to play outside as much as possible, or possibly get some work done on the boat.

Next weekend, I hope to get some more pictures uploaded. Chris was in a fishing tournament and we went sailing on Valentines day so I would like to get those posted......I still have some Christmas pictures I want to show you.

Hey, what can I say? We're on island time around here, I'll get to it! (Eventually!)

Hi Rebecca...thanks for Your comments. I’ve recently applied for three different positions on Kwajalein. I figured it might up my odds for landing a job there. To be honest, my biggest concern would be loneliness. Could tell be how most people are dealing with it.

Hi Joe-

Kwaj is like a very small town. Most everyone is friendly, you see them everywhere you go. On your way to work, on your way to lunch, in every store, the post office.....it's very hard to get any alone time unless you stay locked in your room.

With that said, I know it's possible to be lonely in a crowd. I am not one of those people so I'm not sure what others do about it.

I can tell you I'm much happier here since I've gotten into a relationship (and subsequently married).

There are a lot more men here than women, by far.

I don't know if that answers your question or not, feel free to send me a message with your email address (I won't publish it) and you can ask some more specific questions.

I know what it's like when internet and phone go out here, I live with it... I think people are too.. i guess the word is dependent on things and people. Where you live and how yo ufeel is what you make of a situation.

Sure, one could be lonely if you don't try to get out.. but at the same time, taking time to relax......relaxing on/near the water and taking it easy in a place like Kwaj would beat the hustle and bustle of the good ole USA any day.

Im a single guy who just likes to enjoy the sights and sounds of where I live and relax, tkaing it easy when Im not working.
